Organizational Adaptation to the impacts of climate change. The case of Dresden, Germany

Abstract:
Adaptation to climate change impact is a challenge for companies in different industry sectors. At the organizational level adaptation is a key element of strategic management in the pursiut of competitiveness.
The purpose of this study is to examine how companies adapt to climate change impacts. Organizational learning is used as the theoretical framework. The Region of Dresden is selected as a representative case. Structured interviews are to be conducted with experts from different industrial sectors (water and energy industry, food & tobacco, mechanical engineering, tourism and construction) and evaluated qualitatively.
It is expected that companies opt for adaptation measures depending on their perception and interpretation of climate change impacts. Moreover, it is estimated that the industry sector and the size of the company influence the perception, interpretation and the extent of adaptation measures.
This dissertation seeks to contribute to the theoretical understanding and connection of perception of a changing environment and the response to this change. Moreover, companies can learn from the results and political and administrative authorities gain insights useful to the regional economy in coping with climate change.
